Patience is sometimes a virtue. In 2019, I converted many of Mama’s slides to digital. Among them was an image of a couple on their wedding day. I had no idea who they were and never had the chance to ask Mama. Fast forward to October 2023, when I decided to write a sketch for Eugene Gregory, a 1st cousin 1x removed. While drafting the sketch, I checked Find A Grave to see if there was a memorial for him. Whenever a memorial includes a tombstone photo, I typically ask the photographer for permission to use it on my blog.
Unfortunately, my request hadn’t been fulfilled by the time I was ready to publish, so I moved on. In mid-February 2025, I received an email that it had finally been fulfilled. I clicked the link to review the photo and noticed that Eugene’s wife, Patricia, had sadly passed away recently. This led me to search for her obituary, where I discovered her family had uploaded 48 photos of her, one of which was a wedding photo.
I recognized the couple in the photo and decided to search through my family photo archives. I found the wedding photo, and they were the same couple. If you follow my blog, you know it always makes me happy to identify people in unnamed photos!
My thanks go to the volunteer who kindly took the time to visit the cemetery, take the photo, and post it on Find A Grave. He helped me more than expected.
